Beware of Belleys and the Botanical Gardens!!

Oddly enough, as we were enjoying the Botanical Gardens with Mike and Ange a week and a half ago one of the boys pointed out that when we go there with friends, they soon move away. And here we are, on Mike and Ange's moving day and I'm posting pictures of our evening. Soon , when I can do it without crying, I will post pictures of their going away parties. Right now I'm too sad to do anything but post the pictures I uploaded a while ago.

The happy couple!
Ethan - ever entertaining!

Sick Day 2 (aka Mental Health Day)

Considering how I've been feeling the last 6 weeks it is a surprise to most people (including me!) that we have only taken 1 sick day for my sake. We have done lots of rearranging and Missy has generously stayed late to keep me company MANY times, but only once have we ditched the books altogether. This day was a close call, with both teachers feeling under the weather we(the teachers) managed to let lunch time come without having done anything but doodle. The kids started to trickle in and join us. They really enjoyed doodling like we had been. While they doodled we made quesadillas for lunch. Afterwards we did hit the books and did get that part of school done.

And we all felt a little better for it.

Sick Day...

This is what a sick day looks like when you homeschool...well, when the teacher is feeling under the weather anyway. We headed out to the nature reserve near us and made some really cool discoveries...

A fallen tree...

A heron...
A snake....
An outhouse!!?? They still exist!!
This one even compostes...
And some drawing to help us remember all we saw!!

What?

Thanks Ange for the laugh.... (and thanks Eva for giving them to Ange!!)

walk, TALK, eat

Yesterday, some good friends came over for a nature walk and supper to celebrate the first day of fall. Because the men (or most of them) were in a meeting Melissa and I headed right over to our house where we made apple pies and I cleaned while she tended to baby Lucas. (So sweet! I LOVE to have company when I clean, makes the job go so much faster!) Soon, the others started arriving and we headed out for our walk. It was beautiful in the woods, and smelled so much like fall!!

Karen, Maya and Jeremie.
Maya's treasure - a leaf!
Kaleb being carried away!
Of course I was too busy having fun to take any more pics than that! Silly me! We headed home for spaghetti supper, apple pie, coffee, and of course CONVERSATION! What a perfect start to fall!

Portraits?

We went to the ocean to take family pictures. The ocean and weather co-operated wonderfully. The kids were so full of energy I didn't manage to get one single picture of them together that I love! We did however have a good time running around the beach, finding hermit crabs and shells and a few starfish. The weather was beautiful! I love to taste the salty wind and see the dark sky and water! I could have walked there for hours!

Nova Scotia

We are home!! We had a GREAT week visiting with my brother and his family. As one of my friends put it I came home "filled with the smell of Nova Scotia and new babies and little girls and medium boys and family!" AND full of wonderful new memories made! As I have time I will share pictures with you, as a teaser, here are some pics taken on our last evening there. Gaetan and I went to the beach alone, leaving the boys to enjoy their little cousins!! We walked and walked. It was SO beautiful!!
